Returning Officers’ Report: Hindmarsh Ward

RUSSO PIPPED AT THE POST IN 2010 ELECTION.

The Returning Officers Report for the Hindmarsh Ward election  shows that the race for the second Councillor position was won by a handful of votes at the 8th preference distribution by Craig Aurich – who trailed by some 18 votes up until the very last round of preference distributions. Full details can be found in the Council Agenda here: http://www.charlessturt.sa.gov.au/webdata/resources/files/cl10-11-29.pdf   (page 16 on_)

A dismal 26% turnout seems to indicate that none of the groupings active in the campaign managed to generate much public interest in what was ostensibly a bland policy free election campaign. Below the surface tensions have erupted on the Save St Clair Facebook page post election however, with one member, the local MP Mick Atkinson, accusing a Hindmarsh resident of hypocrisy over the election campaign, after a speech in Parliament was quoted on the website

SAVE ST. CLAIR ALTERNATIVE PLAN

St Clair to a Rally to Save Our Open Space –
Stand Up Against Development Happy Government-
before the Bulldozers Come to Where You Live!!

"Developers are funding the government and the government is raping and pillaging our precious open space and rural land to pay them back the favour!!

The government clearly did not learn anything at the last election and has continued on its merry way at St Clair, Cheltenham, Glenside, Mt Barker, Gawler, Mt Pleasant, McLaren Vale and on and on and on!!! They have not listened and do not care!!!

An alternative plan for St Clair incorporating much more open space than those proposed by Council and the LMC has been prepared by the residents and ratepayers group"
